Call these first

  1. 211 — tell them it is an emergency car repair and you need the car for work
  2. Your TANF or workforce caseworker — emergency transportation funds may be available
  3. Community Action Agency — many have one-time repair funds
  4. Salvation Army, Catholic Charities and local churches — ask about emergency assistance

Have this ready

  • A written repair estimate
  • Proof of employment or job offer
  • Proof of income and address
  • Your driver's license and registration

If repairs cost more than the car is worth

It may be better to apply for a free car or consider a fair car loan. Read our full car repair assistance guide.
