Apply for a free car with Free Car Foundation
Seniors are welcome to apply to our program. Our application is free, takes about 5 minutes and never asks for your Social Security number or bank details.
Other programs that accept seniors
Salvation Army Vehicle Assistance
Mainly domestic violence survivors, families in serious financial crisis and people experiencing homelessness.
Clean Cars 4 All (California)
Income-qualified California residents who retire an older, higher-polluting car.
Tips to improve your chances
- Call your local Area Agency on Aging (find it through Eldercare Locator or 211) and ask about ride programs
- Medicaid often covers non-emergency rides to medical appointments
- Car repair assistance may be more realistic than a free car if you already own a vehicle
- Be extra cautious of phone calls or texts saying you "won" a car — seniors are frequent scam targets
What to do while you wait
Free cars are rare and waitlists are long. Most families combine an application with a backup plan: repair help for a car they already have, grants and low-interest car loans, or government transportation help. Read what a donated car really costs before you are selected.
